Das 20. Jahrhundert ist eine sehr\u2026 bewegte Zeit f\u00fcr die Kommunikation. Denn das Informationszeitalter bricht an. Die Etablierung, Weiterentwicklung und Abl\u00f6sung von Kommunikationstechnologien nehmen ein bisher ungeahntes Tempo an. Telefonie, Radio, Telefax, Fernsehen, Mobiltelefonie, Satellitensysteme und schliesslich: das Internet. All dies wird neu unter dem Begriff Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie oder IKT zusammengefasst.<\/p>

Doch erst mal zur\u00fcck in die erste H\u00e4lfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Zu dieser Zeit lebt und waltet n\u00e4mlich Alan Turing, der massgebliche Beitr\u00e4ge zur Informations- und Computertechnologie leistet. Dem Genie gelingt es w\u00e4hrend des zweiten Weltkrieges, Funkspr\u00fcche der deutschen Wehrmacht zu knacken, die mit der angeblich unbrechbaren Rotor-Chiffriermaschine Enigma verschl\u00fcsselt sind. Dies gelingt ihm mit der sogenannten Turing-Bombe (wir empfehlen an dieser Stelle den Film \u201cThe Imitation Game\u201d). Danach dauert es nicht mehr lange, bis das Prinzip \u201cSecurity through obscurity\u201d, also Sicherheit durch Verworrenheit, zugunsten der mathematischen basierten Kryptografie abgel\u00f6st wird.<\/p>

Damit erf\u00e4hrt die Kryptografie im 20. Jahrhundert einen grossen Wandel und wird von einer \u201cGeheimwissenschaft\u201d zur Wissenschaftsdisziplin. Dies aus gutem Grund: Mit dem Aufkommen von Computern steigt auch der Bedarf an der Verschl\u00fcsselung von Daten. Im 20. Jahrhundert gipfelt dieser Trend in den 90ern mit der Entwicklung der Verschl\u00fcsselungstechnologien Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) und dem Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).<\/p>

Und so kam\u2019s dazu: 1976 ver\u00f6ffentlichen Whitfield Diffie und Martin Hellman einen Artikel, der den Grundstein f\u00fcr das Public-Key-Verfahren legt. Public Key ist im Gegensatz zu bisherigen Verfahren ein asymmetrisches Kryptosystem. Das heisst, Sender und Empf\u00e4nger ben\u00f6tigen nicht mehr denselben Schl\u00fcssel. Jeder Benutzer kreiert ein eigenes Schl\u00fcsselpaar, das aus einem Geheimschl\u00fcssel oder Private Key und einem \u00f6ffentlichen Schl\u00fcssel oder Public Key besteht. Der \u00f6ffentliche Schl\u00fcssel des Empf\u00e4ngers dient der Verschl\u00fcsselung einer Nachricht, die wiederum mittels Private Key vom Empf\u00e4nger entschl\u00fcsselt werden kann.<\/p>
